In this lesson, instructor Divya Jayanthi outlines the importance of learning and perfecting the basic note patterns (Sarali Swaras) in Carnatic music. She provides a big picture overview with examples, of how these patterns train the mind to internalize the notes and produce them on demand with perfect pitch control. Basic note patterns also help students be able to improvize and create their own note patterns sooner and are a great tool for developing strength and resilience in the voice.

By the end of this lesson students would be able to visualize the role of basic note patterns in enabling advanced learning. We encourage students to find the full length videos of the clips showcased as examples on youtube at www.youtube.com/indianragaproject or facebook at www.facebook.com/indianragaproject to better understand how rigorous training in basic concepts enables these performers to reach advanced levels.
