Carnatic music is definitely more than just the notes, and has a few key characteristics that distinguish it and make it extremely aesthetically appealing. This module covers two such important aspects – Continuity and Vocal Ornamentations – which every Beginner student must incorporate into his/her singing from the very beginning.

Instructor Vinod Krishnan covers these two aspects in careful, nuanced detail with suitable examples. We recommend all students to take this lesson and immediately strive to incorporate them into their singing. Students are also encouraged to observe these elements in Carnatic music performances in live concerts or videos available online, to notice how the song is enhanced through effective use of these techniques.

By the end of this lesson, students will have an idea of what makes Carnatic music sound different than western and other forms of music, and what elements must be carefully incorporated into their singing as they progress.
