It is a modular program designed to help you go from concept to a full-fledged professional music or dance video. The beauty of the program is you can pick and choose which steps you want to do with our help, and which ones you want to do on your own.

Matching and Collaboration

Raga Labs kick off with the collaboration stage. Under a Raga Labs mentor, your team brainstorms ideas, puts together a structure to your music or dance piece, refines it to make it unique and interesting, and gets ready for production. The basic package includes 4 sessions of mentorship, but you can add on more if you need more help at an additional fee.

Raga Labs work best if you can form a team of 4 like-minded peers to work with. If you cannot, we will help match you but it takes atleast a few weeks since it depends on when others apply.

Music teams will be taken to a professional audio studio in their city and guided through audio recording for their piece. The basic package includes 4 hours in the studio including setup time, but teams can purchase additional hours if they need. The session files will then be sent to Raga Labs team to get them professionally mixed and mastered, and the final audio will be sent to the team.

This stage is not there for dance teams since they will be performing to existing music.

After the audio is ready, the team can decide a video shoot date and sign-up. Raga Labs will schedule the same with a professional videographer in your city. The basic package comes with 3-4 hours of videography in an outdoor location.. Teams can choose to add on hours or additional services for a more elaborate set. Teams must bring their own makeup and costumes.

After the shoot, the files are transferred to the Raga Labs team and we get it professionally edited.

Once the video is ready, teams must submit it to the Raga Labs team for approval. If the quality of the content (not production) meets our artistic standards, teams can sign-up to have the video released on Raga Labs. Our team will put together a trailer, thumbnail and release plan to help the piece optimize viewership. Raga Labs branding templates will also be added on at this stage.

Read our FAQs below. If you still have questions, email info@indianraga.com

Teams can meet in person if its the same city, or they can have the initial sessions via Google Hangout to decide the concept and get started. Based on the timeline provided by us, they can then figure out specific days to meet in person, and meet in person for the final production. The Coordinator should decide what would be best considering the composition of the team and everyone’s convenience.

Once the group is confirmed, everyone will decide a specific day and time every week with the Coordinator – which means it will definitely be convenient for you. We cannot decide this before you sign up unfortunately

No. Once you join a team, it is a start-to-end commitment to produce a wonderful video with them. It is not possible to leave or join in the middle

This is definitely for both adults and kids. Groups are decided to ensure that all members in the group have similar caliber. Since Raga Labs is not for Beginners you do not run the risk of working with someone who is not talented. While signing up if you do have a group in mind, you can give it a name, and each applicant should mention that in the form while signing up. If multiple members of the group are selected, we are happy to let them work together.

Yes this is for dance also. We are currently able to do Carnatic, Hindustani, fusion, semi-classical/movie, Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Odissi, Kathak, pure instrumental, a cappella, jazz collaborations, and are constantly trying out new exciting genres! We encourage everyone from any culture or ethnicity, with any artistic skill in music or dance, in any genre, to apply.

For Dance Labs, the group must use music that they already own entirely and belongs to them, or they are free to use any of the 500 tracks available on the IndianRaga or Raga Labs channel that is produced by IndianRaga. If other tracks are used, the team runs the risk of the audio being muted, or facing legal action for violating copyright, both of which are not in our control, so we are unable to allow it.

Yes Raga Labs is different from Fellowship, and are both prestigious projects to be part of. Both programs are selective, not everyone who applies is able to do them. Raga Labs identifies the best talent at local or regional levels and brings them together either remotely or in person to do one project. Fellowship happens annually and brings talented artists together to work on an extended set of projects. Those who are unable to commit the amount of time required for Fellowship might find Raga Labs an easier, flexible option to start with. Many of our Fellows have been Raga Labs participants and continue to do them, and vice versa.
